Seniors Away Day Stanton on the Wold Wednesday 28 June 2017

It rained non stop on Bill Sutton's Seniors away day at Stanton on the Wold, so the playing conditions were rather tricky to say the least.  36 Seniors took part which, was very pleasing, and apart from the rain everyone enjoyed the day, which was followed by an excellent meal and a chance to dry out.

The winner of the Individual Prize was Chris Frith with 37 points.  An excellent score in the conditions.  Dave Beswick was runner up with 34, followed by  Alan Williams with 33.

The Team prize was won by Pete Dakin, Alan Webster, Brian Hall and George Hay with 80 points.  Runners up  were  Geoff Allcock, Trevor Todd, Dave Vosper and Don Marshall and third place went to Chris Frith, Bill Sutton ,Chris Higgins and Roy Longthorn also with 80 points

Nearest to the pins prizes on the  par 3's were  Chris Higgins, Chris Frith , Trevor Todd and  Brian Hall.  The longest drive prize went to  Brian Armitage with Henry Hosking runner up.

Thanks  go to Paul Carroll and Alan Webster for sorting out the very wet cards and to those Seniors who donated prizes. This is second successive year we have been nearly washed out by the rain , so perhaps next year we may go for a date in January !!

Seniors Christmas Competition Monday 12 December 2016

The weather was kind and golfing conditions were good for mid December as a great turnout of 44 Seniors played an AmAm in teams of four.

The results were very close with three teams returning respectable scores of 83 Stableford points.  The winners on count back were Frank Fay, Don Marshall, Ian McCara and John Strodachs.  Dave Vosper, Stuart Kynoch, Peter Taylor and Les Simpson took second place ahead of Geoff Allcock, Norman Ellis, Dave Wilkinson and Stuart Rackley.

Everyone enjoyed the day and the Christmas meal provided by Paul and his team was excellent as usual.  Seniors Captain, Bill Sutton, wished all the Seniors a very Merry Christmas and a successful golfing New Year and thanked all those who kindly donated prizes.

Ladies and Seniors AmAm Monday 3 October 2016

The annual mixed Ladies Seniors AmAm, with one gentleman and one lady to score on each hole and all to count on 18, was won by Carol Devonport, Trevor Todd, Rachel Miller and Dennis Wain.  Nearest the pin on 15 went to Jayne Harris.   It was an enjoyable day as usual which ended with a lovely afternoon tea.

Seniors Captain's Away Day 2016

Our annual Captains Away Day was held on Wednesday 29 June with 35 players making the trip to Melton Mowbray. The weather could only be described as horrendous, with non-stop rain for the whole day.  The majority of players heroically completed all 18 holes in very difficult conditions.  We obviously did not see the course at its best, but with the exception of some standing water the greens were very good.  Melton Mowbray made us very welcome and provided us with excellent catering.  It was  great value day out.  The winning team was Mike Pearson, Ken Jones, Dennis Wilcockson and Charlie Kean.  A great effort on the day. (They must all have been on survival training.)  Nearest to the pin prizes were won by Norman Ellis, Chris Higgins and Pete Dakin.

I would personally like to thank everyone who turned out to support me, this was much appreciated.  Finally, everyone who was not wearing a Seniors tie or Club tie at dinner was fined £1 each which was donated to the Club Captains Charity.
