The Past Captains Society was formed in 1976 by Alan Ward and Dennis Peach. In 2016 the society will be celebrating its 40 year anniversary. Every Longcliffe club captain is invited to join, also, membership is open to any Longcliffe member who has held the position of captain of any other golf club.
The society play four team matches a year, usually 12 per team, against the past captains of Lingdale, Willesley and Whittington Heath. These are all home and away alternate years apart from Whittington Heath which is home and away each year. This is an excellent opportunity to meet fellow past captains and to proudly wear the captain’s jacket at the post match dinner.
In addition, there is an annual ‘away day’ which this year was at Newark Golf Club and thirteen members of the society attended and had a great day out. The prize winners were:
Individual Winner Alex Herriott 35pts. 2nd Richard Barker 35 pts. 3rd Stuart Rackley 35 pts
Am Am Team Alex Heriott, Tony Craddock, Terry Skilling
Nearest the pin’s Chris Frith and Norman Ellis
Mystery Prize Roger Barker
To end the year the Past Captains Club Championship is held late September, this is a singles competition and the winner receives a pro shop voucher and the engraved trophy for a year; this is followed by the societies AGM and dinner. Should anyone wish to know more about the society please contact secretary/organiser Norman Ellis.
