National PGA Qualifier  Saturday 21 April 2018
The course was showing the first signs of spring and in excellent condition following the recent wet weather, and proved a tough challenge from the back tees.  Five golfers returned nett scores of 71 with Alan Scott (90 - 19) coming out on top.  Harry Worden (80 - 9) was second, Jerry Brown came third (79 - 8), Dave Wilkinson (77 - 6) came fourth and in fifth place was Mark Lawrence(73 - 2).  The Best Gross Prize was won by Ollie Willson with 72.  Division winners were Harry Worden, Kyle Bentley (86 - 14 = 72) and Alan Scott.

Jerry Brown qualified for the PGA Pro Am and will partner David Mee in the next round.

Congratulations go to Andy West and Darren Croshaw who secured a solid 2 and 1 victory at Birstall and go into the hat for the next round.

Stockhall Trophy Greensomes Stableford  Saturday 7 April 2018
The weather stayed dry...almost...and although a bit sticky in places, the course had recovered well from the midweek rain for the first men's comp of the year.  Congratulations go to winners Graham Moody and Lee Griffin, who returned an impressive  42 points. Simon Whittaker and Gary West came second with 41 on count back from Rob Docherty and Nick Howlett also with 41.  Matthew Vann and Lee Southall were fourth with 40.

Seniors v Erewash  Thursday 5 April 2018
This was the second outing of the Seniors, with many new faces both in ours and the Erewash team.  We caught a window of sunshine and very welcome it was too.  Whilst the course was still damp in many places the ground staff should be praised on how well they have prepared it, under very difficult circumstances.  The Erewash players also commented on how well the course was playing.

As the Erewash course has been closed for many weeks this may have reflected in the overall score which went 5.5 to 1.5 in Longcliffe's favour.  Congratulations to all who played in a very congenial atmosphere.  New friends were made all round.

Again, Paul and his staff did us proud with an excellent post match meal and for providing the nearest the pin prize, which went to Erewash.

Ladies Barlow Elsom  Tuesday 2 April 2018
Seven days on and another lucky gap in the persistent grey skies. While the course was understandably wet, it was a joy to be out and playing; the fact that all bunkers were GUR was a revelation under the circumstances! The winners of the day's greensome medal, with a very respectable 74.2, were Julie Bowler and Suzanne Pretty. They managed to beat runners up Joanne Barradell and Alison Davie by a mere 0.4 having who secured a round of 74.6! Well done ladies.
Course Report April 2018

April Course Report is now on the Members Only Section notice board.

Mixed - Deacon Squires.
Taking close to six months to conclude, well earned congratulations go to Mick and Jo Barradell who beat Andy De Wet and Hayley Smith 4 and 3 to win the Deacon Squires competition for 2017.

The initial qualifying comp for this has been moved to Sunday 22nd April for 2018 in order for the match play rounds to take place in warmer climes (we hope). Please add your names to the sheet which is now up on the Mixed Comps Board.

Ladies St John's Cup Tuesday 27 March 2018
And so the new season commences! Unusually for the weather of late (!) it was a drizzly start to the first ladies qualifier for 2018. Whilst wet under foot in places the greens were considered receptive, testament to the grounds staff.  Congratulations go to our very own Ladies Vice Captain Margaret Norris who took the trophy this year having played a "steady and thoroughly enjoyable" round, accumulating 32 worthy points in the conditions. Well done also to Claire Bottom who was runner up with 31 points.

Winter Open

Considering that the course had been covered in snow and was closed earlier in the week, it was in fine condition to welcome 25 Fourballs to play in our first Open of the year.  The weather was good....almost springlike.... which encouraged some reasonable scoring.
