News Update Tuesday 19 June 2018
Seniors v Kirby Muxloe Monday 18 June 2018
This was a re-arranged match due to inclement weather, and apart from the strong winds at the start the weather was just perfect. Our visitors commented on how well the course was set up, but many struggled with the contours of our greens. Each match was played in good spirits with the usual banter and ribbing, but this did not help our visitors who went down 7.5 to 0.5. Not quite a whitewash, but close!
Many thanks to the greens staff for continuing to make Longcliffe an enjoyable but challenging golf course, which everyone loves to play and the post match meal received excellent compliments yet again.
Kirby Muxloe will be the venue for our seniors captains away day, which will be next Wednesday 27th June, with places still available.
Ladies Handicap League v Market Harborough (away) Thursday 14 June 2018
Our second match of the season took place against Market Harborough, the forecast was good but we hadn't predicted the strong winds that the teams had to battle against. Unfortunately, Market Harborough were missing one member of their team, but they still gave us a close game with two against one. We won 5 and 4 in one game, 4 and 2 in another and the third game was halved with the final putt.
A superb tea of salad, sandwiches and cream scones finished off the day which had been much enjoyed by all and we look forward to hosting Market Harborough next year.
Sturton Cup Wednesday 13 June 2018
On a fine sunny day with the course well prepared and in good condition congratulations go to Nick Moore who returned a brilliant nett 65 (84 - 19) to win from James Pretty with the lowest gross score of 1 under par 71, nett 67, in second place, and Brian Armitage in third place with nett 69 (85 - 16).
Longcliffe v Wollaton Park (away) Thursday 14 June 2018
The Men's Combined Team visited Wollaton Park in Nottingham. The course was in stunning condition, playing firm and fast, aided by strong, swirling winds from the tail end of Storm Hector earlier in the day and the greens were an absolute pleasure to putt on!! Despite a number of close matches, home advantage overcame on the night with the home team being victorious 5 - 1. Congratulations to Steve Warren and Ian Russell on being the sole victors for Longcliffe with an impressive 6 and 4 win.
Juniors v Beedles Lake Sunday 10 June 2018
In their second match in defence of their County Junior League title our Juniors had a convincing 3 - 1 win at home against Beedles Lake Juniors. A special mention goes to 10 year old Charlie Roulston who stepped in at the last minute and provided the vital win to clinch victory!!
Help for Heroes v Kirby Muxloe Wednesday 6 June 2018
The H4H Team faced a determined Kirby Muxloe team in their second match of the season. Despite fielding a strong side the team slumped to another loss. On the night the visitors played the better golf and proved deserving winners 5-1. The only bright light was the performance of Sean Creeney and Wayne Bown who maintained their 100% winning record.
League team v Cosby Thursday 7 June 2018
Last years' champions, Cosby, brought a very strong team to Longcliffe and secured a 6.5 to 1.5 victory. Our next match is away at Hinckley on Thursday 21 June. Why not go along and support the lads?
June Course Report is now on the Members Section notice booard.

As the dry weather persists, course conditions continue to change. Rebecca Wood clearly excelled to win her first comp at Longcliffe with a superb nett 69 (78-9). Runner up was Sue Overton with an excellent nett 71 (103-32), highlighting her good run of form.
Congratulations to Rebecca Wood and Jackie Haines who are now eligible for the Gold Medal.
In the newly introduced Putting competition, Angie Lane beat Kate Hammond on the back 9 to win with an impressive 30 putts. Well done to everyone who successfully juggled both scorecards!
Ladies Saturday Medal - Saturday 2 June 2018
A special mention for Alison Davie who shot a fantastic nett 69 (84-15) to beat her compatriates on the day. Perhaps the growing Saturday competition suits you Alison?!

County Foursomes Update
Defending Pro Am champions Dave Mee and Steve Critchley had a solid start to their campaign with a 3 and 2 victory at home against Forest Hill A team and go on to play Glen Gorse in the next round. Unfortunately in a hard fought game Ed Martin and Rich Wells lost out to the Leicestershire on the 20th hole.
Unfortunately the Seniors pair lost at Willesley 2 and 1, the Men's team went out to Ullesthorpe and the Ladies lost to a strong Luffenham Heath team. The Mixed team have yet to start their campaign against Kilworth Springs
Congratulations go to Blake Francis for WINNING the Midlands Region of the Bridgestone Chase Your Dreams Trophy at Chapel-en-le-Frith Golf Club, with a nett level par score for the day when the next best score was +4. Blake qualifies for the National Final at Frilford Heath in August and goes there with all the best wishes and support from all at Longcliffe!!
Bridgestone "Chase Your Dream" Women's Trophy Wednesday 23 May 2018
Having returned the lowest aggregate of four nett scores in EG medal rounds in 2017, Rachel Miller qualified for the Regional Medal Final (Midlands North) which took place at Burton on Trent's beautiful course this year. Early on, the conditions were cool with a significant breeze however the greens varied from fast to lightning. Such conditions were clearly too challenging for many as CSS for the day was 76. However Rachel, who posted a praiseworthy nett 77, held her breath as the scores trickled in to finally find herself placed 9th out of 10 available places for the Grand Medal Final. This takes place at Frilford Heath in Oxford in early August. We wish Rachel the very best of luck in the next round!!
Hannah Trophies Sunday 10 June 2018
14 pairs turned out for the Hannah Trophies mixed competition. The course was in excellent condition and the clubhouse filled afterwards for a meal. It was very close with 8 teams within 4 shots of the winning pair. However, victors on the day, with an excellent nett 65 were Kate Hammond and John Price. In second place were Dave and Fiona Johnson with nett 66 followed in third place by Trevor and Ann Todd with nett 67.
It was brilliant to have so many play in the comp, and hopefully even more will compete in the next one.
Volunteers hard at work on the 15th tee.
Longcliffe's merry band of volunteers replanted the bed in front of the 15th tee with wild flowers and grasses supplied by Simon Ellis (MD) of Hathern Garden Centre. Our thanks go to Simon who supplied the plants, and included bark and compost at no extra charge. A special mention goes to Billy McKeown who got up very early to paint the fence around the putting green and who later, ably supported by Stuart Kynoch and Roy Longthorn, painted the fence around the 15th tee.
If you would like to join our team of volunteers please contact Alan Webster at: firstname.lastname@example.org or 07305 810302, to help out and be rewarded with coffee and bacon butty afterwards.
Captain's Away Weekend - Hawkestone Park
What a brilliant weekend!! Both courses were in top condition, especially the Hawkestone course, the newly refurbished hotel was spot on and the weather .......hot and sunny and not a hint of rain! The Sunday AmAm was won by Rob Smalley, Dave Gould and Kev Moore on count back with 86 points. Nearest to the pin prizes went to Rich Selby, Captain Dave and Andy Smith.
We all met up for an excellent dinner in the evening with prize presentations followed by an hilarious set by Paul Boardman. Wearily some golfers headed off to bed, however the star of the show was President, Arthur Plater, who was last seen reciting limericks at 3am.
Many bleary eyes were on show at breakfast before Monday's Stableford on the Championship Course, which was won by Mike Orchiston with 35 points. Nearest to the pin prizes went to Paul Graveling and Andy Smith..........who amassed a grand total of 11 points in his round..........!!
Congratulations go to Captain Dave Hagger for organising a great weekend!!.
