What a scorcher.....?? Unbroken sunshine and challenging conditions made for a a great Captain's Week at Longcliffe. Thanks got to the Michael and his greens staff team for preparing the course and keeping it watered despite the irrigation system breakdown..... and an immense thank you to Captain Dave Hagger and his wife Julia for their wonderful hospitality at the halfway house; second to none!
Hazel Elias-Jones posted a phenomenal 43 points to win on the day followed by Sylvia Armson who amassed an equally impressive 37 points to take 2nd place. In third with a solid 36 points was Gilly Higgins and in 4th was Madeline Ellis, also with 36 points, who is having a good run of form. Sarah Haslum takes the gross prize (26 points off scratch) but narrowly did so, beating Kirsten Thorpe by 1 point on the last!
Experience was the order of the day with President Arthur Plater taking first place with an excellent 42 points from Brian Hall, also with 42. James Littlewood took third place with 41 followed by Russell Taylor with 40. Playing highlight of the day goes to Vince Johnson who achieved his first 'Hole in One' .... on the first hole! What a great way to start a round ?
There was not a breath of wind as the course sweltered yet again, however the conditions inspired Ricky Wood who returned the winning score of 41 points. Rob Hamilton came close behind on 40 with David Johnson third on 38. The Scratch Prize went to Andy Harding with a gross 76; Best Senior over 60 was Mal King with 37; Best Senior over 70 was Ian Hubbard with 35 and best Past Captain was Dave Gray with 35 points. Nearest to the Pin Prizes go to: Ist - Chris Reilly, 5th - Jamie Dicks, 15th - Joe Slater; in 2 on 10th - Ashley Mansfield. The full list of prize winners is displayed in locker rooms.
Congratulations go to Ethan Zhang who scored a magnificent 42 points to win the Captain's Juniors prize
