Paget Trophies - Sunday 10 September 2017
There was a great turnout of 12 pairs all of whom were hoping not to get too wet in the cool, blustery weather. Weather aside, Chris and Rachel Miller managed to win for a second consecutive year with a strong 42 points from Andy and Tina Rumming on 40 points and Mick and Joanne Barradell on 38 points. Thanks to everyone who played to make the day a really enjoyable event for all. Thanks also to Paul and his team for the provision of lovely food on our arrival in the clubhouse.
Mixed Norman Salver Sunday 6 August 2017
Whilst the greens remained soft and the breeze persistent, Chris and Rachel Miller improved as their round progressed to make a good 41 points and take the trophy this year. Runners up were Pete and Sue Black, close behind with 39 points. Thanks to all who played on the day; a small but perfectly formed field!
Hannah Trophies Sunday 2 July 2017
Many congratulations go to Hayley Smith and Andy De Wet who shot an excellent nett 65 to win in fine conditions. Hot on their tails were runners up Julie and Graham Bowler with nett 66, closely followed by Suzanne and Rob Pretty on nett 67. Drinks in the sunshine followed on a lovely summer's day. Thanks to all who entered, keeping this section live and kicking!
Mixed County Fours Update
Mixed County Foursomes.
Suzanne Pretty, Martin Downing, Sarah Haslum and Harry Coe played their semi final at Hinckley Golf Club against a strong Ullesthorpe team. The course was good and conditions were favourable, however it was Ullesthorpe who took advantage and progressed to final. Congratulations go to Longcliffe's team for reaching the semi's!!
Mixed County Foursomes Wednesday 26th July 2017
Another excellent win! Against a black and blue sky, and over 18 + 3 holes, the Longcliffe team of Suzanne, Sarah, Jon and Martin held their nerve to beat a strong team from The Leicestershire, securing a well deserved place in the semi finals. Thanks to all who came along to support this nail biter; it was well worth it!
Mixed County Foursomes Wednesday 28 June 2017
The course was wet under foot after hours of persistent rain earlier however, autumnal conditions aside, many congratulations go to Longcliffe's Jon, Sarah, Martin and Suzanne who fought hard to secure an overall 1 up win against an unrelenting team from Luffenham Heath. Thanks were conveyed to the supporters who endured the cold to see some of Longcliffe's finest in action. Bring on the next round..!!
Mixed County Foursomes v Willesley
The mixed team had a good win last night in the County foursomes, beating Willesley Park by 8 up. Jon Siddons and Sarah Haslum were 5 up after giving away around 11 shots and Suzanne Pretty and Martin Downing were 3 up. On to the next round....!!
Mixed Match Update 2017
Mixed v Stanton on the Wolds Sunday 13 August 2017
Although the work on the greens made putting a challenge our visitors enjoyed the course and the after match meal as usual. The match result ended in a 4 - 2 home victory for Longcliffe.
Mixed v Beeston Fields Sunday 9 July 2017
Such is the popularity of playing at Longcliffe Beeston brought nine couples to play in the match which as usual was played in great spirit and all enjoyed the game and the meal afterwards. Thanks to Derek and Sandra Bloor who filled in at short notice. The result...? Longcliffe won 6 - 3.
Mixed v Kibworth Sunday 25 June 2017
Many of the away team commented on how good the course looked and played on Sunday however, despite the on and off nature of the weather, the home team successfully held Kibworth to a great 4 1/2 - 3 1/2 win. Notables for the day were Anne Kilby and partner Andy Wilkinson who scared their playing partners into submission by the 5th (not actually true but sounds great!). Dennis Wilcockson and Irene Moody also had excellent rounds with their respective partners. As ever, a fantastic meal concluded a great days golf in good company.
Mixed v Rothley Park (away) Sunday 4 June 2017
On a day of sunshine and showers, some of which were quite heavy, unfortunately we suffered our worst defeat of the season 1 - 6. Rothley definitely had their A team out! One of our male players, no slouch, had his best round ever and still lost! We start our series of home matches soon so hopefully we should fare better. Many thanks to Ian and Gill Youngs who agreed to stand in late in the day and then were stood down because one of their opponents injured herself on Saturday! congratulations to Charlie Keane and Hayley Smith who were the 1.
Mixed v Beeston Fields Sunday 22 May 2017
The mixed team today visited Beeston Fields GC in Nottinghamshire. Excellent weather prevailed after the terrible weather over the last week. Home advantage was key, as is often the case in these matches, with Beeston running out 3.5 to 1.5 winners of the match.
The Mixed section have had mixed results so far. We lost at Radcliffe on Trent, 4 ½ to 3 ½, not bad for an away match. The game was enlivened by providing interest to a goose nesting in a tree who watched carefully as we all went past her.
The next match was at home against Charnwood which we won 5 ½ to 3 ½.
With Rushcliffe we played an AmAm. Rushcliffe had provided three players to make up Longcliffe’s numbers and inevitably the team made up of all Rushcliffe players won, with two teams level behind them, including Graham Roper playing with Sandra Roberts and David Gould playing with Irene Moody.
If any members are interested in playing Mixed Golf, men and women on their own or couples are welcome, please contact Lynne Morgan or Richard Walker.
Longcliffe Mixed v Charnwood Sunday 24 April 2017
The Longcliffe Mixed Team took on our closest neighbours Charnwood to start the new season. The matches were played in great spirits with many of the couples knowing each other and renewing 'old rivalries'. Debutants Dave Vosper and Rachel Miller won 4 and 3 and team captain Andy de Wet and Hayley Smith won 4 and 2, leading to an overall 5 - 3 victory to Longcliffe!!
