Mixed Match Update 2016

Mixed v Willesley (away) Sunday 18 September 2016
The season came to an end at Willesley.  Unfortunately an enjoyable game saw our merry band succumb to the home team 1-7.  The autumn/winter/spring fun matches begin soon.  Teams of two men and two ladies.    Sign up on the Mixed notice board close to ladies locker room.

Mixed v Beeston Fields (away) Sunday 21 August 2016
It was starting to rain when we started but thankfully cleared up quickly and then was perfect for golf, not much wind and sunny intervals. Unfortunately we suffered another, Beeston 5 ½ and Longcliffe 2 ½!  The result sounds worse than it really was. Quite a few couples lost on the last hole or two, and one couple reported that "After 10 holes our match was all square and between the four of us we were two shots under gross par and had had five birdies".  Not bad?
The Beeston bar and dining area had very recently been  completely refurbished – air conditioning, new furniture, a new carpet and a new paint job.  It drew very favourable comments from the Longcliffe team!

Mixed v Church Brampton (away) Sunday 10 July 2016
The Mixed played at Church Brampton and  the result was match halved!  Not bad considering we were playing on an ‘away’ course and they seemed to have an A team out.  Andy and Tina Rummings played for the first time.  Many thanks for standing in late in the day!

Mixed v Kibworth (away) Sunday 26 June 2016
The mixed played at Kibworth in reasonable weather which makes a nice change! Unfortunately we lost 7 – 1 with Dave Gould and Irene Moody being the sole winners.  It was not as bad as it sounds with most of the matches  going to the 17th and 18th holes.  We’ll try harder next time...

Mixed v Charnwood(away) Sunday 12 June 2016
Longcliffe lost badly in terrible weather at  Charnwood 6-2.  Let’s hope for better luck against Kibworth.

Mixed v Rothley Sunday 5 June 2016
We were lucky to play the match in one of the few windows of decent weather this summer.  Out of courtesy to our visitors, both pairs of the Longcliffe organisers arranged to lose their matches, but the overall 5/3 result in favour of Longcliffe was deemed a sufficient defence of the club's honour.  Club Captain, Dave Wilkinson, joined the team for the first time as a new player in the Mixed, and his wife Izzy was a welcome guest at the meal afterwards.  A special mention also for Sue Overton, playing her first match since heart surgery, who with partner Dennis Wilcockson delivered one of the wins.

Mixed v Radcliffe on Trent Sunday 8 May 2016
The match was played in great spirit with everyone thoroughly enjoying the course on what turned out to be a glorious Sunday afternoon.  The Radcliffe team were very complimentary about both the course and our new chef's meal afterwards.  The match result was honours even with a well earned half.

If  you would like to join our merry band and play in the Mixed Section matches please contact Richard Walker or Lynne Morgan.  The more participants the merrier....!!

Mixed v Beeston Fields Sunday 24 April 2016
At last a triumph.  A solid 5-3 win at home on a pleasant but chilly spring Sunday.   About time.....!!

Erewash and Rushcliffe
It has not been the best of starts to the new season for our not-quite-as-intrepid-as-we-would-like warriors. Well and truly whacked 1-5 at home by Erewash Valley and only just squeaked a half with Rushcliffe 4-4, also at home.  Must try harder.....!!
