Captain versus Vice Captain Saturday 14 October 2017
Tickets for the Captain's Supper were on the line in the annual Captain versus Vice Captain comp and were hard fought for with Kevin Moore and Tom McKenzie, representing Vice Captain Dave Hagger's team, winning the overall prize with 45 points. Paul Reed and Gary Titterton, representing Captain Dave Vosper's team, came a close second also with 45 points. Nick Carter and John French were third also with a commendable 45 points. The Captain's team won 13 up....!! If you did not win your ticket they are available from the bar price £12.

Congratulations go to Andy West who returned a gross score of level par 72, which included 5 birdies, to win with 41 points. Chris Cooper came a close second on 40 points with Tony Parrish in third place on 37.

Shepshed Ford Saturday 23 September 2017
As the competition season draws to a close Phil Cowell saved his best to win the Shepshed Ford, and Div 2, with an impressive nett 66 (83-17). Paul Argument came second with nett 68 (85-17) edging out Harry Worden and Tony Stretton also with nett 68. Harry posted the best score in Div 1 and Vernon Gubb scored nett 69 (88-19) to win Div 3. Martin Downing won the best gross prize with a level par round of 72. Congratulations to all!!

The move to a Sunday competition certainly suited Rich Wells who posted the best gross score of 69 and the best nett of 67 (69-2) to win the Stubbs Cup. John Rawson continued his run of good form to come second, and win Div 2, also with nett 67 (83-16). Trevor Hall came third with nett 68 (81-13) and Kevin Moore posted the best nett of 70 (89-19) in Div 3.
Charles Hull Trophy Saturday 9 September 2017
The morning stayed dry and Simon Whittaker took full advantage, posting an impressive nett 67 (71 - 4) to win from Tom Adamek, nett 68 (71 - 3) , who also took the best gross prize on count back with 71. John Rawson came a creditable third, also with nett 68 (85 - 17), and won Division 2. Division 3 was won by Jeff Hardy with nett 69 (96 - 27).
Falcon Cup Saturday 2 September 2017
Graham Moody posted the best gross score and won the Falcon Cup with an impressive 75, nett 67 (75- 8). Kevin Marshall took second place with nett 69 (79 - 10) on count back from Mark Bond also with nett 69 (78 - 9). Blake Francis won the Division 2 prize with nett 72 (88 - 16) and Tony Cose topped Division 3 with nett 76 (103 - 27).

Congratulations go to Shaun Wiggins who narrowly pipped James Pretty to the winning post, both with 39 points, with Darren Croshaw close behind in third place with 38.
Denham Cup/King Rabbit Saturday 5 September 2017
Play was suspended as thunder and lightning crossed the course, however play resumed to see Blake Francis return a good score of 38 points to win the Denham with Richard Davie and John Rawson close behind on 37. King Rabbit was won by Mathew Vann with 40 points with Neil Harris second on 34 and David Bonner third with 33.

Congratulations go to Phil Dearden who won with a solid score of nett 71 (82-11). Dave Gray (80-9) came in second and Dave Beswick (87-16) third both with nett 71. The gross prize went to Jon Steel with 77. Winner of Division 3 was Alan Clarke, nett 74 (97-23).

Conditions were wet and miserable on the Wednesday, but improved on Thursday to find Matthew Tyler take the honours with a solid nett 68 (78-10) from Will Adamek with nett 70 (79-9) and Blake Francis on nett 71 (89-18).
President's Day Saturday 22 July 2017
To end a glorious week the weather stayed fine almost until the final groups came to the turn, but unfortunately some were caught in the rain which persisted throughout the evening. However, with the course in excellent condition and softened by overnight rain, Mark Bryant returned a fine score of 42 points to win from Ian McKendrick on 41 and Harry Coe on 40.

The fine weather continued and with course in good nick, but with golfers experiencing some tricky bounces, Gary West produced a fine round, which included 2 birdies and 10 pars, to win with 41 points from Steve Carvell also with 41. John Hughes came third with a solid 39 points.

Another fine day on the golf course saw Dave Coley return an impressive score of nett 66 (89 - 23)to win. John Price continued his good form to take second place with nett 69 (79 - 10) with Graham Moody in third place with nett 71 (80 - 9). Jake Crowshaw returned the best gross score of 76. Division winners were: Div 1 John Price; Div 2 Andy Moss 71 (88 - 17); Div 3 Dave Coley.

What an excellent end to a brilliant Week?? The sun continued to shine on Captain, Dave Vosper, as the field took on the challenge of Longcliffe at its best. Congratulations go Sandy Allen who took the Captain's prize with an impressive 42 points on count back from Paul Reed, also with 42. Pritesh Chandarana took third place with 39. All prizes will be presented on the evening of the 22nd July. Thanks go to Dave and his family for their hospitality at the halfway house!!

It was hot enough to boil water.....well, not quite......but on a glorious day, and the course in excellent condition, the scores were pretty good with Harry Coe coming out on top, sinking 6 birdies, with 43 points, Charlie Kean came a close second with 42 and Alan Miller in third place with 39. All prizes will be presented on the evening of the 22nd July.

Foursomes is not the easiest game, but when the weather's fine and the course is playing well, as it was on Sunday, then it's good challenge as Andy West and Darren Croshaw found when they returned their score of 72.5 to win from Andy Harding and Chris Chambers, also with 72.5.

Despite the wet and miserable conditions, 38 golfers braved the elements with Gus Younger returning 39 points to win from George Griffiths on 36 and Fabio Brunetti on 34.

The blustery wind made the course tricky with the standard scratch at 74, but this caused Adam Brind no problems as he rose to the challenge to win the Dixon Trophy with an excellent nett 67 (73-6). Pete Black came a close second with 68 (76-8) on count back from Andrew Tyson, also on 68 (78-10). The Armstrong Cup was won by Paul Farmer, who scored 70 (89-19), with Captain Dave Vosper in second place with 72 (92-20) on count back from David Wordsworth also with 72 (87-15). The gross prize went to Gary Titterton with a fine level par round of 72. Paul Farmer won Division 1 and Dave Vosper won Division 2.

On a fine day with the course in excellent condition....great work from Michael and his greens team....Chris Miller won with a fine knock of nett 69 (76-7). Rob Pretty was close behind with nett 70 (79-9) and Martin Litherland was third with nett 71 (91-20). Chris win Division 1, Michael Barradel won Division 2 with a nett 72 (84-14) and Martin Litherland won Division 3. John Siddons returned the best gross score of 69.

Although it was windy, the conditions remained dry which encouraged some low scoring. Congratulations go to Rob Pretty who won the Spears Cup with an impressive nett 66 (77-11) from Martin Downing 68 (71-3) and Andy West 69 (74-5). The best gross was Jon Siddons with a fantastic 68. Daniel Hart won the De Lisle with a a fine nett 66 (83-17) from Andy Moss in second place with 70 (88-18) and Paul Farmer in third also with 70 (91-21).

In great weather and the greens improving Graham Johnson won with 39 points, which included two birdies, from Rob 'Doc' Docherty in second place with 38 and Shaun Wiggins in third with 37.
Victory Cup Saturday 27 May 2017
For most of the morning it was fine, sunny and warm, although we had one heavy shower. By midday the wind strengthened and it clouded over. With the course still improving and the greens becoming truer Darrell Timson scored 41 points and won with 3 birdies and 7 pars beating Tony Sheppard on count back also with 41. George Santaney came in third with 38.

In a very tight finish James Littlewood returned a solid score of 38 points to win from Simon Whittaker, also with 38. Nathan Fisher secured third place with 36 points.
Coalville Cup Saturday 6 May 2017
The weather was fine, a cold wind made scoring tricky, but this did not deter Vernon Gubb and Alex Herriot who returned a fine better ball score of nett 65, beating Wayne Bown and Nic Moore into second place with Tony and Tim Linnell in third, also with nett 65.

Good weather on both days, and with the course presented well by the greens staff team, a large field enjoyed the challenge and returned some consistently high scores. Congratulations go to Paul Dearden who led the field on Friday with 42 points. He held on to his lead, although he was nearly overtaken by Scott Middleton on Saturday, who came second on 41, closely followed by Darren Wade in third place also with 41 points.

On a sunny spring day Paul Winter returned a fine nett 67 (77-10) to win and partner David Mee in the next round. Brian Lawrence came in second with nett 70 (82-12) on countback from George Santanay also with nett 70 (78-8). Winner of best gross was Jon Siddons with 70. Division 2 winner was Daniel Hart nett 70 (88-18) and Division 3 was won by David Bonner nett 72 (94-22).

Congratulations go to the pairing of Simon and Morgan Whittaker who posted a great score of +8 on a chilly Easter Monday, despite the tricky dressed greens. Henry Hosking and Steve Carvell came in a creditable second place with +7, with Kevin Whittle and Steve Clarke in third on +6.

What a great start to the playing season!! The weather was fantastic for early spring and the course looked terrific, and played very well, as Victor Patino and Dave Wilkinson returned a great score of 44 points to win. Craig Spooner and Andy Rumming came second with 42 points followed closely by Craig and Nick Turner with 40 points.

In a tight finish to their final match of the season the lads were disappointed to lose 4 - 3 to spirited Birstall team. It's been an excellent season overall with the team securing second spot in Division One. Looking forward to next year!!

A visit to Cosby is always tough and it proved so for the team who slipped back to second place in Division One following their second defeat of the season.

Although the team suffered their first defeat of the season 6 1/2 - 1 1/2 at Hinckley they still share top spot in Division 1 with Cosby, both registering 4 wins out of 5.

Combined Team Update 2017
Men's Combined Team End of Season Competition and Meal
The Men's Combined Team held their annual end of season competition and meal this evening. 16 played in the comp and 19 made it for the meal afterwards. Some close scoring on a long, wet golf course saw Andy de Wet win with an excellent 37 points from Paul Argument on 35 and David Gould on 34.
The men's team have enjoyed a very successful year, playing 11, winning 8, halving 1 and losing 2 matches. More importantly, an excellent team spirit was fostered, with 33 members representing the club this year.
Next year's fixtures will be posted over the winter months and it would be great to see even more new faces playing next year.

Longcliffe v Willesley Thursday 17 August 2017
The men's combined team had their second match in two days, against a very strong Willesley team. Ably led by Vice Captain Dave Hagger and team captain Andy de Wet who won 5 and 4, it came down to the last match on the course with Colin Whittingham and Graham Bowler winning 1 up in near darkness to secure an overall 3-3 draw meaning we have gone the 2017 season unbeaten at home for the first time in recent memory!! One last game, away at Hinckley in a couple of weeks.

The Mens Combined team travelled to local rivals Lingdale on Wednesday evening. The course was presented very well and the company excellent, with many players renewing 'old rivalries'. A very close match was fought, but in the end home advantage was key with Lingdale just winning by 3.5 - 2.5.

Rushcliffe was in excellent condition despite the heavy rain earlier in the day. All six pairings played excellently and were unbeaten, the final result being a convincing 5.5 to 0.5 victory!! Well done all who played, especially those who filled in at short notice to ensure we were able to put a full team out!!

The men's combined team visited Erewash Valley which, despite the heavy overnight and morning rain was in excellent condition. All the matches were keenly contested, many going to the final couple of holes. The result was a battling 3.5 - 2.5 victory for Longcliffe, maintaining our excellent form this season.

The Mens combined team kept up their unbeaten home record this season with another 4-2 victory against Wollaton Park. Convincing victories were had by Ian Russell and Steve Warren 6 and 5, and Les Mitchell and Scott Pugh 4 and 3.

Rothley was in excellent condition, despite the heavy rain over the previous couple of days, although it played very long due to the wet ground and strong westerly wind blowing. All the matches were tight affairs with 4 of the 6 going to the 18th hole. Unfortunately home advantage paid off with Rothley winning 4-2.

The course was in superb condition and the weather excellent as Longcliffe kept up our excellent start to the season with a fourth consecutive 4-2 victory. Past Captain Dave Wilkinson and debutant Scott Pugh led the way with a 5 and 4 win and Les Mitchell and Andy de Wet won 3 and 1. Well done to all involved and on to Rothley Park away in a couple of weeks. Charnwood team captain, Steve Wyles, presented Captain Dave Vosper with the commemorative bottle of wine which was rescued from the burnt remains of Charnwood's clubhouse 40 years ago!

The weather repeated the arctic conditions experienced in last year's match at Burton....freezing cold wind, rain and hail....!! Despite that it was a really good night with much fun afterwards and Longcliffe emerged victorious with yet another 4 - 2 win.

The combined team got off to a solid start to the season at The Leicestershire winning 4 - 2 against determined opposition. Inspired by the new team kit, the two Pauls, Bennett and Argument led the way with a 6 and 5 victory, followed by Captain, Dave Vosper, and Andy DeWet who won 4 and 3. Dave Gould and Martin Ballard volunteered to collect the money following their defeat.
We were warmly welcomed by our hosts and enjoyed the course and their hospitality followed by a fine meal after the match.

Following David Mee and Steve Critchley's impressive 3 and 2 win at Glen Gorse to reach their semi final, Ed Martin and Jon Siddons sealed victory at the 20th hole against Beedles Lake to set up their semi final tie against Scraptoft. Dates and venues for the semi finals have yet to be decided.
