Longcliffe Juniors weather conditions to retain the Triangle Shield
On a warm, but very blustery day at the Leicestershire Golf Club, a junior team from Longcliffe , stayed on course to retain the Triangle Shield. All eight boys showed great determination and team spirit in defying conditions, which at times made many players look quite foolish. A special mention must be given to Jake McCarthy, playing in his first full season with the team. Jake was the last man out for Longcliffe, needing a 69 to secure victory over the Leicestershire golf club, he held his nerve over the last three holes and shot 67, the only sub-par round of the day and in doing so won the prize for the best nett score.

The winning team
Back row left to right: Jack McPhillips, Adam Brind, Harry Coe (captain), Luke Dandy, Adam Downing
Front row left to right Jake Dandy, Herbie Johnson, Jake McCarthy
Comment from Steve Coe - Jake’s efforts aside this was a great team performance, each and every one of them showed great character and both they and Longcliffe can be very proud of their achievement. Thanks to the Leicestershire Golf Club for their hospitality and the green staff for the excellent condition of the course. Also thanks to Christian Dean for organising this year’s event.
Longcliffe host the competition next year and look forward to defending and hopefully once again retaining the Trophy.
