Combined Team Update 2017

Men's Combined Team End of Season Competition and Meal
The Men's Combined Team held their annual end of season competition and meal this evening.  16 played in the comp and 19 made it for the meal afterwards.  Some close scoring on a long, wet golf course saw Andy de Wet win with an excellent 37 points from Paul Argument on 35 and David Gould on 34.

The men's team have enjoyed a very successful year, playing 11, winning 8, halving 1 and losing 2 matches.  More importantly, an excellent team spirit was fostered, with 33 members representing the club this year.

Next year's fixtures will be posted over the winter months and it would be great to see even more new faces playing next year.

Combined v Hinckley (away) Wednesday 6 September 2017
What an end to our campaign this year....a 6 - 0 whitewash......   No excuses weather and course were good.  So were the opposition.  We were not.....!!  Don't forget to sign up for the end of season comp and meal on Thursday 28 September!!

Longcliffe v Willesley Thursday 17 August 2017
The men's combined team had their second match in two days, against a very strong Willesley team. Ably led by Vice Captain Dave Hagger and team captain Andy de Wet who won 5 and 4, it came down to the last match on the course with Colin Whittingham and Graham Bowler winning 1 up in near darkness to secure an overall 3-3 draw meaning we have gone the 2017 season unbeaten at home for the first time in recent memory!!  One last game, away at Hinckley in a couple of weeks.

Longcliffe v Lingdale (away) Wednesday 16 August 2017
The Mens Combined team travelled to local rivals Lingdale on Wednesday evening.  The course was presented very well and the company excellent, with many players renewing 'old rivalries'.  A very close match was fought, but in the end home advantage was key with Lingdale just winning by 3.5 - 2.5.

Longcliffe v Rushcliffe (away) Wednesday 26 July 2107
Rushcliffe was in excellent condition despite the heavy rain earlier in the day.  All six pairings played excellently and were unbeaten, the final result being a convincing 5.5 to 0.5 victory!!  Well done all who played, especially those who filled in at short notice to ensure we were able to put a full team out!!

Longcliffe v Erewash (away) Thursday 20 July 2017
The men's combined team visited Erewash Valley which, despite the heavy overnight and morning rain was in excellent condition.  All the matches were keenly contested, many going to the final couple of holes. The result was a battling 3.5 - 2.5 victory for Longcliffe, maintaining our excellent form this season.

Longcliffe v Wollaton Park Thursday 15 June 2017
The Mens combined team kept up their unbeaten home record this season with another 4-2 victory against Wollaton Park.  Convincing victories were had by Ian Russell and Steve Warren 6 and 5, and Les Mitchell and Scott Pugh 4 and 3.

Longcliffe v Rothley (away) Wednesday 7 June 2017
Rothley was in excellent condition, despite the heavy rain over the previous couple of days, although it played very long due to the wet ground and strong westerly wind blowing. All the matches were tight affairs with 4 of the 6 going to the 18th hole. Unfortunately home advantage paid off with Rothley winning 4-2.

Longcliffe v Charnwood Wednesday 24 May 2017
The course was in superb condition and the weather excellent as Longcliffe kept up our excellent start to the season with a fourth consecutive 4-2 victory.  Past Captain Dave Wilkinson and debutant Scott Pugh led the way with a 5 and 4 win and Les Mitchell and Andy de Wet won 3 and 1.  Well done to all involved and on to Rothley Park away in a couple of weeks.  Charnwood team captain, Steve Wyles, presented Captain Dave Vosper with the commemorative bottle of wine which was rescued from the burnt remains of Charnwood's clubhouse 40 years ago!

Longcliffe v Burton  Tuesday 25 April 2017
The weather repeated the arctic conditions experienced in last year's match at Burton....freezing cold wind, rain and hail....!!  Despite that it was a really good night with much fun afterwards and Longcliffe emerged victorious with yet another 4 - 2 win.

Longcliffe v The Leicestershire (away) Wednesday 12 April 2017
The combined team got off to a solid start to the season at The Leicestershire winning 4 - 2 against determined opposition.  Inspired by the new team kit, the two Pauls, Bennett and Argument led the way with a 6 and 5 victory, followed by Captain, Dave Vosper, and Andy DeWet who won 4 and 3.  Dave Gould and Martin Ballard volunteered to collect the money following their defeat.

We were warmly welcomed by our hosts and enjoyed the course and their hospitality followed by a fine meal after the match.
