INTERNATIONAL PAIRS COMPETITION

Having won the regional final at Wychwood Park, back in September, James Pretty and Harry Coe went on to St Mellion Golf Club and won the English Final. Then off they went to Carnoustie to compete in the final of the International Pairs Competition. In the first round, played on the neighbouring  Montifieth Medal Course, they scored 39 points and in the second round played over the Championship Course at Carnoustie they scored 38 points. Their total of 77 points earned them fifth place in a field of 28 pairs.
Well done James and Harry! An outstanding performance to make the Club proud of you.

Longcliffe Ladies Duo Make Daily Mail Foursomes Finals

Well they made it to the final round but succumbed on the 17th. Great pity but WELL DONE  ladies. We are proud of you!

Sarah Haslum and Gilly Higgins members of Longcliffe Gold Club, have qualified for the finals of the prestigious Daily Mail Foursomes to be held at The Marriot Forest of Arden Hotel and Country Club near Coventry on the 18th, 19th and 20th October.  They have battled their way through seven rounds to reach the last sixteen from an original entry of three thousand golf clubs.

Sarah, who only took up golf four years ago and who now plays off five and Gilly off 13 played for the first time as a foursomes pairing last year when they won the Pidduck Trophies, the qualifying competition for the Daily Mail Foursomes.  On the way to the final they have had some close fought matches.

Rothley Park                   Away           1 up
Lingdale                          Home           1 up
Wishaw (W. Midlands)     Home           7 and 5
Park Hill                          Home           3 and 2
Mickleover                      Away           Won on 19th
Nuneaton                        Home           5 and 4
Abbey Dale  (Sheffield)  Away           2 up

They recall that the tightest game was the one against Mickleover in which Longcliffe were 1 down going to the 18th. Managing to win the hole to stay in the match, the local pair teed off at the first again where Gilly made amends for putting Sarah in a greenside bunker by eventually sinking a match- winning putt.

Both players are very much looking forward to the challenge of playing at the Forest of Arden and its demanding schedule of four matches in two days.
